kII Synth Demonstration

Youtube description - This is a technical demonstration of the kII SpeakJet Application v0.2.4
This might be only interesting for people who want to rebuild this project. Seehttp://www.audiocommander.de/blog/?p=69

The harmonisation features, base-note listening and scale settings are demonstrated at the beginning.
The first part shows synth sounds, with and without Enveloped OSCs and varies combinations of waveforms applied to a subtractive sound-synthesis together with waveforms of the envelope. I know the waveforms are a bit blurry, but one sees when it's changing (there are SINE, SAW, TRIANGLE, SQUARE).

In the late mid-part I am playing the HandTrackerMatrix (seehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSiMwp... ) on different channels. CHannels 11 to 16 are experimental and show a work-in-progress. The black bar at the top right shows the quantize value (1/4, 1/8, 1/16 or 1/32 notes).

The first part (synth) is played on a keyboard (microKONTROL), the second part (voice and experimental) on the handtracker sensor matrix.

The project is released as open source (non-commercial!) on http://www.mdidibox.org/

Auduino: DIY Synthesizer

Youtube description - Make a DIY synth. It costs only $50!

Auduino is a granular synthesizer built on the Arduino platform. It was designed by Tinker.it! and published under an open source license. I build one and plugged a stylus controller which was ripped from Gakken SX-150. It works very well. Its sound is dry and crispy, but I think it is not bad for $50. Want one? Do It Yourself!

More details about Auduino is here:

Folktek Time Scape Sequencer by Arius Blaze

Youtube description - First, thank you for the support of FOLKTEK and be sure to check our blog where you can keep up with our doings if you feel: folktek.blogspot.com...New work by Arius Blaze. This piece allows for thousands of methods of automated sample fuqwithing. Everything from sample stutters, granulation, modulation and bursts of noise etc. Of course it also doubles as a very sweet dub style echo. The range is insane and could not be captured proper in our short videos. In the videos, for the most part, the patches are set according to what I had been playing with prior. The keys are patchable and each part of the sequence is patchable. Time range is from .005 to about 5.5 sec with a noticably lower quality toward about the 3.5 sec mark. This work is expensive but it is also available. More photos and more info on the blog and the site

Time machine by folktek = video1 arius blaze and ben houston

Youtube description -This is a time machine by folktek - arius blaze and ben houston - see folktek.com and ariusblaze.com = sampling based remix machine...Here we captured a single sample "kill em when they get a certain age" added bits from another track that was randomly playing next on the mp3 player, looped it and played the keys. All of the keys are patched to points on the upper patch bay section. The patch bay is magnetic and requires no plugging, just placing the cable ends on whatever patch point you like. the sound quality is terrible, the video is not great, but until a new professional video comes, this is it. this is one of two videos up now.

Feedback Harp by Folktek = arius blaze and ben houston #4

Youtube description - Feedback harp vid #4 by folktek = arius blaze and ben houston collaboration = ariusblaze.com and folktek.com = this video is anothewr example of some straight remixing, capturing a loop from an external track...check videos 1 and 2 for the acoustic action.

Folktek BCM Edition Micro Garden

Youtube description - The Micro Garden is cool little box, equally at home as art or a musical instrument. The BCM edition has super short delay times, tap-tempo, and reverse delay. The front panel is also interesting with the etched circles. The Micro Garden makes sounds we've never heard!

Circuit Bent Hing Hon EK-001

I just stumbled across this keyboard in a shop around 3 years ago. I thought I would give it a try. It turned out to be amazing. There is a potentiometer to change the pitch and also a photocell to change the pitch.

There is a bend that uses the tempo LED to bend the sounds of the drums. Inside the acrylic panel there is a blinking light that shins into a photocell to control the pitch. It gives it an interesting vibrato modulation. Various other switches and bend points that I don't recall. I have since found a whole community of people that are bending these keyboards. Some of the bends are just mind blowing. This keyboard when bent has sounds similar to the Roland 808. You would never have expected that.

I have an upcoming tutorial on how to add a video output to this model. I am bending one right now. In the future I will have a complete tutorial on how to bend this from start to finish. Plus I will likely be selling new un-bent models on the site as they are tricky to find. Maybe I can sell the new ones with a bending kit of components, that seems like a really good idea if there is enough demand for that.

Please excuse the poor quality of the video I think it was one of my first videos.

Optical theremin with LFO

This was made with two 555 chips. One for the audio output oscillator and the other one modulating the first.

Red light oscillator

I built this years ago. I'm trying to remember exactly what it was. I'm pretty sure that it was a standard 555 oscillator being modulated by a blinking light circuit that was taken out of a bike light.

Modified light for optical theremin

Here is a modified light for use with this optical theremin.

Circuit bent Decision maker

This was my first circuit bend ever check it out. Turned out pretty cool, if you ever see one pick it up and bend it.

Circuit bent style optical theremin

This is the first oscillator that I built. I'm not sure why I didn't go with something simmilar. It was sold on ebay. I made 1 or 2 of these I can't remember.

DIY Analog Synth and Rhythm Sequencer MK3

Youtube Description - My newest synth.

Dual, 2 part, oscillators with hard sync and independent pattern generators for Pitch, PWM and Gating.

Just 1 quick routine here. The synth's clock is synced to Logic via an Audio Gate Input. I'm messing around with the PWM pattern and the balance between OSC1 and OSC 2's PWM.

Institut FATIMA - investigation project reacTIVision

Youtube Description - Institut FATIMA, 2 german musicians paul and carsten living in Barcelona. They connected a open source tracking software called reactivision with their music making program and found out, that for musicians and performers a distance to the computers can be in many ways usefull for their performances.
why tableless and screenless?
they are very sensible of the Email Checker Syndrom: electronic laptop musicians look conspicuously often like checking their email when they are performing their music on stage. standing upright beside their instruments allows them as musicians and performers to communicate more with their audience. with a tableinstrument or a screen they are still suffering with the "ECS", because the eyes are focusing downwards to the applications. for this reasons Institut FATIMA is using a very easy and cheap way with a webcam and some paper cards which allows them to dance, perfom and control or not control music simultaneusly, wireless, without any cable barriers.
they implemented it in their shows and will let you soon play with their "magic" cards.

Multitouch Audio Table - AudioTouch OS - Long Version

Youtube Description - More at: http://sethsandler.com

Note: This is NOT a microsoft surface. This is a self-built Multitouch table that I built over the course of a few months time.

AudioTouch is an interactive multi-touch interface for computer music exploration and collaboration. The interface features audio based applications that make use of multiple users and simultaneous touch inputs on a single multi-touch screen. A natural user interface where users can interact through gestures and movements, while directly manipulating musical objects, is a key aspect of the design; the goal is to be able to interact with the technology (specifically music based) in a natural way. Users can load, exit, and move musical applications using gestures as well as have a multiple applications operate within the same work environment. The design is built into a table that hides all the hardware necessary for tracking multiple inputs as well as displaying visual feedback on the touch surface.
